Award winning automotive artist Steve McCool has just released the first illustration of his latest series entitled ‘Heroes of Drag Racing’. It depicts Herman Petersen’s top fuel dragster that raced from 1968-1971. The car won several events along the west coast and throughout Canada, earning Petersen the nickname “The Northwest Terror”. In ’72 Petersen transitioned into a rear-engine car and promptly won the ’73 Gatornationals. ’74 brought a Division Six Championship and a win at IHRA’s Gateway Nationals . In 1975 Petersen ran a career best 5.87 ET at 241.96 mph. In 2000 the Petersen and Fitz race team was inducted into the NHRA Div. Six Hall of Fame. The highlight of Herm’s career came in March 2004 when he was inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
McCool’s illustrations are highly detailed with vivid colors. Each 13×19 illustration is printed on heavy paper with archival inks meant to last a lifetime. Prints are limited to editions of 200 and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. All prints are signed and numbered by the artist and are autographed by the racer.
