We caught up with Dennis Taylor (R) recently, delivering one of his popular Kevlar lower engine restraints to Donnie Bender, national-event-winning crew chief on Don "the Snake" Prudhomme's SkyTel Top Fuel Dragster. Taylor has a close working relationship with most of today's top crew chiefs, some of whom develop their own special modifications to the safety equipment Dennis produces. Following Eric Medlen's tragic accident, there was a lot of talk surrounding the use of seven-point safety harnesses, along with many additional upgrades. Truth be known, Taylor has been manufacturing seven-point harnesses for several years now, and uses them exclusively in his Plumbing Concepts Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Following Bender's first national event win as a crew chief, Snake said, "I'm proud of Donnie and pleased to have Todd Smith onboard in the important role of co-crew chief. He and Donnie complement each other in the way they run the car." He continued saying, "I also have to give credit to the rest of our SkyTel crew. Not only do they work hard, these guys really understand the team concept and it was great to see them reap the rewards at Rt. 66 Raceway. That got the SkyTel Top Fuel crew hungry for more wins." Multi-time Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon is more than capable of leading the charge.
