Muscle Car Electronic Ignition and Coil Conversion Kits from Crane

To optimize the performance of its innovative XR-i unit that converts point-type distributors to state-of-the-art digital technology, Crane has introduced kits that also include the appropriate high-energy coil. The kits are now available for 1955-81 Pontiac V-8, 1957-74 Chevy V-8, 1959-74 Ford V-8, and 1967-up Oldsmobile V-8 engines (with single point distributors). The benefits of converting from points to a digital ignition include faster starts, pinpoint timing accuracy for improved performance and fuel economy, plus the elimination of point "bounce." Moreover, the XR-i eliminates the need to replace or adjust points. It is fully sealed from moisture and dirt to provide total reliability! The XR-i also comes with a built-in rev limiter (the industry's first and only conversion to do so), and can be set anywhere from 4,000 to 8,000 rpm.
Installing the XR-i is quick and easy, as it attaches in the same location as the original points, and requires only a two-wire hook-up. Everything fits inside the original distributor cap, so the conversion is "restoration perfect" from the outside, and it's 50-state emissions legal (C.A.R.B. EO #D-225-67). Included in the kit is a Crane PS20 premium quality canister-style coil that provides 20 to 50-percent greater energy at the spark plug than typical stock coils. It fits most OE brackets. Outlaw(tm) Shifter Handle

TCI(r) makes trans-brake, roll stop or nitrous control easier with new bolt-on grip replacement for the NHRA/IHRA-legal, reverse-lockout Outlaw(tm) shifter. Lack of concentration is the number one cause of inconsistent results on the track. You can't expect your driver to reach for poorly placed buttons and switches and still do his best job at the tree or the finish line. TCI engineers have found a way to make the job of driving your car easier by creating a bolt-on replacement shifter grip handle (P/N 618008), which incorporates an electronic, thumb-activated micro-switch for the NHRA/IHRA-legal Outlaw shifter. This ergonomic thumb switch makes smooth activation and release of trans-brake, roll stop, or even nitrous, easy by allowing you to keep your hand on the shifter handle. This grip handle's precision micro-switch positioning was inspired by equipment used in today's military fighters to increase driver concentration, reduce driver fatigue, and help the team attain consistent results. The bolt-on grip handle is a direct replacement for the standard Outlaw shifter grip handle, takes only minutes to install and connect, and comes complete with the necessary hardware and simple installation instructions. For more information about the TCI Outlaw shifter grip handle with micro-switch or any other TCI product call (888) 776-9824 or visit www.tciauto.com.

Special Tools for Carbon Fiber

DRAG RACER Magazine was proud to introduce Perma-Grit tools to Kenny Bernstein Racing earlier this year, during construction of the Monster Energy/Lucas Oil Funny Car. Made from tough tungsten carbide, they're specially designed to work high-tech composite materials (like carbon fiber) and leave a clean edge behind. Shown is an assortment of sanding and shaping tools including two handle files, rolls, angle, half-round, and flat. Traditional tools are not efficient at sanding or shaping composite materials, having a tendency to either chip or melt them.

For nearly 20 years Perma-Grit Tools has been manufacturing and developing a range of professional abrasive tools, which are made by brazing tungsten carbide grit to steel in a furnace. This permanently bonds the grit to the surface, which results in the abrasive being able to cut the softest materials to some of the hardest, while delivering far better results over conventional tools. Standard, run-of-the-mill files are made from hardened steel and have a serrated cutting surface. Once this edge is worn, the file will not cut effectively and will need replacing. Perma-Grit tools, however, are made from a much harder material, and have thousands of individual cutting edges, enabling them to cut in any direction (and last longer). The grit spacing is much wider than conventional sandpapers, which keeps the cutting surface cleaner and prevents them from loading. Also available are countersinks, cut-off wheels, sanding blocks, and much more. Visit www.permagrit.com for info (and to locate a U.S. dealer near you), or call +44 (0) 1529 455-0304 in England.

At Last -A Nitrous Oxide Pressure Control System!

Carnivore Performance Products has developed the first fully enclosed nitrous oxide pressure control system. The Nitrousaurus-X provides both heating and cooling functions and will maintain the exact temperature that you want. This will keep the nitrous bottle pressure in the sweet spot relative to the nitrous system manufacturer's recommended pressure, resulting in maximum horsepower at all times. The system is NHRA/IHRA/NMCA/NMRA/NSCA approved for all classes that permit nitrous oxide use. The system is made in the USA and was awarded U.S. Patent No. 6,889,513.

Providing advanced microprocessor temperature control technology combined with a state-of-the-art Peltier Heat Junction, the Nitrousaurus-X system was designed for heads-up, index and/or bracket racing where performance and consistency are the most important factors. The system can allow any nitrous-assisted vehicle to be as consistent as any other naturally aspirated vehicle. This means that anyone can enjoy the cost-effective horsepower of a nitrous oxide injection system and still maintain a consistent tune-up for a real winning combination. 10-Degree Titanium Super Locks

COMP Cams(r) has introduced 10-Degree Titanium Super Locks(tm). Often referred to as "keepers" or "split locks," these strong, lightweight valve locks deliver premium performance benefits. Regardless of their diminutive size, COMP Cams has spent a considerable amount of time designing and testing valve locks to improve their performance and the reliability of the overall valve train. The new 10-Degree Titanium Super Locks are not only strong and lightweight, reducing valve train mass, but incorporate a 10-degree square groove lock facing for premium valve holding ability. They must be used with 10-degree titanium valve spring retainers and square-groove valve lock compatible valves. 10-Degree Titanium Super Locks are available for purchase in single sets (2) and for four, six and eight-cylinder engine applications. For more information call COMP Cams at (800) 999-0853 or click on www.compcams.com.

Dart Platinum Series PRO 1 Cylinder Heads

The new Dart Platinum Series PRO 1 aluminum cylinder heads for small-block and big-block Chevy V-8s are the direct descendents of Dart's Pro Stock engine program, incorporating sophisticated wet-flow technology and improved combustion efficiency. Affordable Platinum Series PRO 1 heads offer exceptional performance in street/strip, bracket racing, marine, and high-performance applications. Both applications retain the original bolt locations and use stock and aftermarket bolt-on components. The intake seats of these new heads have five distinct angles, which is a direct result of Dart's wet-flow testing. Each of the five angles provides a shear point for the fuel to go into suspension before it enters the chamber. The valves are back-cut to condition the fuel before it enters the chamber. As a result, the engine pulls more fuel and makes more power. The spark plugs are located as close to the top (and center) of the combustion chambers as possible, shortening the distance that the flame front must travel and producing a more uniform pressure rise in the cylinder. For more information contact Dart Machinery, 353 Oliver Dr., Dept. DR, Troy, MI 48084, call (248) 362-1188, or visit www.dartheads.com. DR
