Q Just out of curiosity, did Tony Bartone wear a HANS Device last year? If in fact he didn't, do you foresee him having any difficulty getting used to it?
A Tony has worn the HANS Device at several different events in the past, so I'm sure it won't present any problems during the 2007 season.
Q We heard that Center Line had developed new wheel designs for Top Fuel and Funny Car. Do you have plans to upgrade to a newer style wheel?
A I've been with Center Line Wheels for over 30 years and I believe in their products. Center Line's new designs have more strength in the stress area, so I do plan to change, as safety is always our first concern. We always have the latest style wheels on the Lucas Oil Funny Car.
Q Tell us about your involvement with Lucas Oil, in regards to product development and testing, and whether its engineers are engaged in an ongoing program to analyze samples from their various team cars.
A Forrest Lucas takes his business seriously and feels a great sense of pride in offering the best oils and lubricants on the market. Lucas Oil engineers work continuously with our team (and others) to build on a superior product.
Q In your opinion, has any progress been made towards increasing the percentage of nitromethane allowable by rule?
A No, there has not been any measurable progress. NHRA put us on 85 percent in an attempt to slow us down and lessen the amount of oil-downs. But, they haven't slowed us down, we have more oil-downs, and our costs have increased dramatically. I don't think they're going to give us more nitro because we'd make more power (as a result).
Q With the introduction of the Impala SS body, we've heard that it's far superior to the Monte Carlo. Please give our readers an idea of the investment necessary to make a major change like that. We would imagine that actual figure would triple, as you can't run hard with only one or two bodies at your disposal.
A The Impala SS is new for 2007 and as this issue goes to print, we are in the process of making the transition. A complete race-ready body, including tinwork, trees, latches, wing, Lexan windows, fire-retardant coating, paint, graphics, and decals costs approximately $50,000. DR |
